This fair-sized Sam Smiths pub is outside York's outer ring-road, in the village of Wathill. It's right next to a lovely duck pond, and has a large car park to the rear. Being a Sam Smiths pub, the beer is very cheap. They serve good food. There's also an eery glass-covered well set in the floor. Apparently this pub used to be famous for their steaks. You can take the walk by the side of the duck pond to get to the Duke of York pub at Gate Helmsley. (I think this may be technically outside 'York'?)
